Our frequently asked questions may help answer any queries you might have before raising them with us.
Do I need planning permission?
Planning permission is not usually required for work affecting the interior of a building only, however if it affects the outside of the building it is highly likely consent will be required. Additionally, all structural work requires building regulations approval.
What is building regulations?
Building regulations are set standards, by government, to ensure the health and safety of those in or around them. They apply for both commercial and domestic projects. Structural work will almost certainly require building regulations approval, which is achieved through provision of information in advance (Such as structural calculations) and on site inspection by a building control officer.
Where do you operate?
We are based in Bridlington, East Yorkshire and cover the areas of East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire (Including Scarborough Borough Council , and Hull City Council areas)
Do you carry out structural surveys?
We do not provide structural surveys for damage or condition reports. You should contact a structural engineer who specialises in structural defect reports, or a RICS Chartered Surveyor.
Do you need to visit the property?
Our engineer will need to visit your property to assess the load distribution on the structure. This is required prior to any calculations being done.
I already have plans drawn, can you help later in a project?
Yes, we can become involved at any stage of the project. Please contact us to discuss.
What are your payment terms?
We require payment in advance for all projects. Confirmation of costings will be provided on site, however our usual fee for structural calculations is £190.00/beam. Upon instruction a written invoice will be provided and payment must be provided before we will commence the calculations.
How long will it take?
Timescales will vary due to workload, however the usual timescale is between 2-4 weeks from survey. This will be confirmed at the site visit.
